Bars can be sites of confrontation, and the last thing we need is ready access to firearms

Let’s face it, nightlife can be dangerous. While most nighttime patrons are responsible individuals, there are a few exceptions to the rule, and these exceptions must be taken seriously.

Fights often occur in bars. Add firearms into a situation where confrontation is possible, and the result is clear. In June of 2009 there were two instances of club shootings in Memphis during the same evening, and this was BEFORE the legislation was passed to allow guns in restaurant establishments that serve alcohol.

We understand the desire of gun owners who want to carry their arms with them wherever they go. What we don’t understand is making an already potentially dangerous atmosphere loaded with firearms AND alcohol. Eliminating firearms in establishments that serve liquor and beer is one step in minimizing dangerous scenarios.

The Barroom Brawl is a coined phrase in our culture for a reason, and we shouldn’t be adding firearms to it. We understand you want your gun, but we want our safety. Join our cause to overturn the law allowing guns in bars.
