Bars Take Action to Protect Patrons

Bars and restaurants all over Tennessee are doing whatever they can to protect their staff and patrons from potentially dangerous situations. Many bar/restaurants owners are posting signs that let customers know firearms are not welcome in their establishments. But many bar owners are taking precautions a step further.

Tootsie’s, a world famous bar on Nashville’s legendary Broadway street, is planning on frisking customers before they enter the premises. Owner Steve Smith has begun investing in metal detectors to be sure anyone entering Tootsie’s is not carrying a firearm.

"We don't want legal guns or illegal guns here," said Smith in an interview with the Tennessean. Smith, like most Tennessee restaurant owners, hopes the coalition represented by attorneys Adam Dread and David Randolph Smith will overturn the law in a follow up hearing in 90 days.

Steve Smith is one of thousands of Tennessee business owners liable when the Restaurant Carry legislation went into effect last Monday. Smith, like all business owners, is committed to keeping his patrons safe from dangerous situations that may incur when firearms are brought into bars and restaurants.
